1 Introduction
Trom the arctic capital is the largest city and port in arctic Norway. Trom has
throughout history been the starting point f or expeditions and adventures in the high north.
Trom has a strategic location to f ishing- and offshore fields in the Norwegian Sea and
Barents Sea, and is a popular destination for tourism.
Trom is a centre for Arctic knowledge and science
and is an important logistic hub in the arctic. With a
well-developed infrastructure and service industry,
we are a one-stop shop f or maritime- and marine
industries.
Situated at 69° north
Despite the location at 6 north the Norwegian
coast have a relatively mild climate. Surrounded by
mountains Tromsø enjoys stable weather conditions
and has a sheltered port. The port is always ice-f ree.
2 Company description
The Port of Tromis owned by the municipality of Tromsø. Our mission is to contribute to
development of maritime business activities in the municipality and to handle
administrative tasks Trom has been assigned to in accordance to the Norwegian Act
relating to harbours and f airways.
The Port of Tromis Norway’s largest f ishing port, an important cruise port and the largest
logistics hub in Northern Norway. In addition, we experience a growing activity related to
energy and heavy industries.
The Port of Tromsø has three major port areas: Prostneset, Breivika and Grøtsund.
Prostneset is our port area in the in the city centre of Tromsø. Breivika is an important
logistic area for goods and supplies. In addition, it is the main cruise port in Trom.
Grøtsund is the main industrial area in Tromsø. The area is developed f or heavy
operations.

3 Strategic location
Trom has a strategic location to oil and gas fields in the Norwegian Sea and Barents Sea.
With a well-developed inf rastructure and service industry Trom has several advantages
in concerns of logistical f lows.
The map below gives an indication of the location of Tromsø and Hammerfest in relation
to Goliat, Snøhvit and Johan Castberg.

4 Description of port areas
For logistic operations both Breivika and Grøtsund
port areas are can be used. The most suitable
location depends upon the size, complexity and
estimated period of the operation.
The distance between Breivika and Grøtsund is
15.5 km by road or 3 nautical miles by ship.
Transfer of cargo/equipment between Breivika
and Grøstund can be done efficiently by truck
and/or barge.
4.1 Quays
Initially the Port of Tromsø has one quay in
Breivika and one at Grøtsund available for logistic
projects. Both quays are connected to a large
logistic area.
Quay 25 Breivika:
150m long, minimum 11m low water depth,
equipped with 250t and 75t bollards. 70t/m2
point load and 5t/m2 surface load.
Quay 1 - Grøtsund industrial area:
130m long, minimum 20m low water depth,
equipped with suff icient 250t and 150t bollards,
150t/m2 point load and 10t/m2 surface load. The
quay has a connected ro-ro ramp.
The area is regulated for further development.
4.2 Outdoor storage area
Breivika port area:
20,000 30,000 m2 available. Surf ace loads of 5t/m2 and point loads of 70t/m2
Grøtsund industrial area:
90,000 m2 available. Total area with surface load capacity of 10t/m2 and point loads of
150t/m2. Additional area can be developed as the total regulated area f or Grøtsund is
1,500 acres.
4.3 Indoor storage facilities
Breivika port area:
Warm -, cold- and freezer storage terminals available through service providers in
Trom.
Grøtsund industrial area:
Outdoor storage on immediate connection to the quay side. Further expansion is
regulated and planned.

5 Maritime aspects
Trom has sailing corridors from the south, west and north. Large vessels to and from
Breivika and Grøtsund uses deep water corridors to the west or north.
5.1 Float-off locations
There are good float-off locations with water depths 60 -100 meters in close vicinity to
Breivika and Grøtsund.

6 Services
6.1 Pilotage
Mandatory Pilot or PEC for vessels according to Regulations regarding the obligation to use
pilotage in Norwegian waters.
6.2 Tugs and mooring assistance
Harbour tugs and mooring assistance are available.
6.3 Crane capacity
For quay 25 in Breivika harbour crane with 40t on 28m outreach is available. Other mobile
capacities can be arranged through service providers. MT is available through our partners.
6.4 Power supply
The Port of Tromcan deliver shore power with voltage 400-690V, 50-60Hz, up to 800kW.
6.5 Water
The Port of Tromsø has certified healthy potable f reshwater f rom connections on quayside.
The water system has suff icient pressure to supply industrial projects. Also to rigs
alongside the quay.
6.6 Waste and disposal management
The Port of Trom has established facilities for the disposal of waste and cargo residue
from ships.
Our waste handling company can receive all kinds of waste and cargo residues, both solid
and liquid.
6.7 Communication
Required infrastructure is available.
6.8 Bunkers
Bunkering is possible by barge or truck.

7 Compliance with laws and regulations
The Port of Tromsø provides services according to the following regulations (not limited
to):
Act relating to working environment, working hours and employment protection,
etc. (Working Environment Act) and its applicable regulations
The Regulations relating to Systematic Health, Environment and Saf ety Activities in
Enterprises (Internal Control Regulations)
The Port of Tromsø has a waste management plan approved by the official county
administration. This plan describes the waste handling system for vessels according
to regulations for ships waste (The Regulations relating to restriction on pollution).
The ISPS (International Ship and Port Facilities) Code are implemented f or most of
the ports. The regulations sets standards to the security and protects against
terrorist attacks on ships and port facilities
All employees have the required qualifications f or their assigned tasks. Use of internal and
external training is systemized. Programs for maintaining operational certification in place.
The Port of Trom is member of the prequalification system EPIM JQS. The qualification
system shows which products and services we have according to the international category
standard UNSPSC. Every year the Port of Trom completes a self -assessment of
competence within health, safety, quality and risk based on the international guidelines in
IOGP423-01.
8 Accessibility
Trom, the largest city and logistics hub in northern Norway is well connected to other
national and international destinations.
8.1 Sea transport
Trom has regular connections to Norwegian ports including Svalbard. In addition
international connections to North West Russia and other European ports.
8.2 Road transport
The European route E8 is the road connection between Tromand other European routes
8.3 Air transport
Trom Langnes Airport is situated close to the Port of Tromsø. It is 4 km from the city
centre, 4 km f rom Breivika port area and 20 km from Grøtsund industrial area.
With 15-20 daily direct f lights to Oslo, the capital of Norway in addition to direct f lights to
other national and international destinations Trom is easily accessible.
