CHECKLIST FOR JOINT-DEGREE MAJORS IN
MEDICAL IMAGING SCIENCES (658)
Rutgers University-Newark and the Rutgers School of Health Professions (Rutgers-SHP) offer a
joint Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Imaging Sciences. Students choose one of the two
programs: Cardiac Sonography and Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Students graduating
with degrees in MIS become members of health care teams contributing to the diagnosis and
treatment of disease. MIS majors are readily employed in a variety of health care, industrial,
governmental, and educational settings.
Medical Imaging Sciences majors complete their prerequisite science and math courses at Rutgers
University-Newark. They then apply to Rutgers-SHP in January for admission in September into
one of four 15-month programs. Admissions are competitive and so not guaranteed. Minimum
admissions requirements include an overall GPA of 2.850, with grades of C or better in all
prerequisite science courses taken at Rutgers University-Newark. Students who transfer into
Rutgers University-Newark must complete at least half their biology course credits at Rutgers
University-Newark to qualify for the joint degree program.
