RE: Flags Lowered Honoring Former State Senator Jack Biddle III
I hereby authorize flags be flown at half-staff on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, on the grounds
of the Alabama State Capitol Complex in Montgomery and in Jefferson County to honor the life
of former State Senator Jack Biddle III, who passed away at the age of 94 on February 18, 2024.
Senator Jack Biddell served his country and his state with honor. A U.S. Army veteran of the
Korean War, a real estate broker, builder and staunch advocate for his constituents, Senator Jack
Biddle represented his home of Gardendale and north Jefferson County in the Alabama State
House for two decades before serving in the Alabama State Senate an additional ten years. He
held many distinctions during in his time in office, including serving as Floor Leader for three
governors and the only Alabamian to be elected as a Democrat, an Independent, and a
Republican.
The flags on the grounds of the State Capitol Complex and in Jefferson County may be flown at
half-staff on February 21, 2024, from sunrise until sunset.
