enduring elegance. Situated on the picturesque island of New
Castle, this Opal Collection property invites travelers to
indulge in a series of festivities, events, and special offers
throughout June.
Established in June 1874 as the “Wentworth House” by
Charles and Sarah Campbell, the resort initially offered
weekly rates ranging from $14 to $28. Under the ownership of
Frank Jones in 1879, the property underwent signicant
upgrades, including the addition of iconic towers and a curved
mansard roof. Notably, the Wentworth hosted historic events
such as the Russo-Japanese War peace talks in 1905.
Throughout the years, it passed through various hands,
witnessing both prosperity and neglect until its restoration in
2003 under the Opal Collection.
To honor its illustrious history, Wentworth by the Sea
presents a lineup of exclusive events and offerings. Guests can
partake in weekly croquet matches on the lawn, delve into the
culinary heritage with historic cooking classes, and embark on
captivating history tours. Every week, the resort hosts an
elegant high-tea ceremony in the lobby, inviting guests to
savor tradition in a timeless setting. Additionally, Salt Kitchen
& Bar tantalizes taste buds with drink and dinner specials,
featuring classic cocktails and rare aged scotch whiskeys.
For a truly unforgettable experience, guests are invited to the
150th Anniversary Reception on Friday, June 14th. Curated by
Executive Chef Michael Lee, this historic-themed event
showcases Gilded Era dishes with a modern twist,
transporting attendees to a bygone era of culinary splendor.
With guests encouraged to don period clothing, the reception
promises an evening of opulence and nostalgia.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, Wentworth by the Sea
presents a special $150 for 150 travel deal. Guests booking
stays on or after June 1 will receive a $150 resort credit,
redeemable for indulgences such as dining at Salt, pampering
treatments at the Opal Spa, and luxurious room service. This
