IMPORTANT NOTICE TO INDIAN NATIONALS TRAVELLING TO MEXICO
Since July 1, 2016, the Indian nationals holding valid and in force visa/ residence permit
for Canada, USA, Japan, UK, any member states of Schengen Area are allowed to enter
into Mexican territory without requiring a separate Mexican visa for visits up to a
maximum period of 180 calendar days.
In recent period, some of the Indian nationals traveling to Mexico, on the basis of the
above mentioned visa/ residence permit, have not been allowed entry into the country by
the Mexican immigration authorities at the airport, as they did not fulfill all the
requirements.
To avoid such inconvenience, the following points may be noted for strict compliance:-
(i) The visit with exemption from Mexican visa is allowed only for the purposes of transit,
tourism, a short business visit, short term education/ training and voluntary work.
(ii) The visitors are not allowed or permitted to carry out any remunerative activities or
take up any gainful employment in Mexico.
(iii) In addition to the valid passport and visa/ residence permit of the specified
countries, the following documents are also required to be carried by the visitor(s) and
presented to the Mexican immigration authorities at the airport:-

Invitation letter of Govt./Agencies/Universities/
Companies/Appointment letters with details of salary terms and
conditions [For employment visa].
Name and contact No. of person(s) in Mexico.
Visiting family/friends must keep their contact details [With
Addresses of both office and residence, profession etc.] and mobile
numbers in neatly typed paper.
Students coming under exchange programme or on Mexican
Scholarship should carry hard copies of host University letters
with duration of course with other terms and conditions.
TRANSIT VISA:
• Confirmed air tickets for the final destination.
Valid visa for the final destination or any document stating that either visa for final
destination is not required or that it will be issued on arrival. Tourist Visa:
• Documents in support of hotel reservation in Mexico.
• Air tickets for onward or return journey and internal travel within Mexico, if any.
BUSINESS VISA:
A mandatory letter [only in Spanish language] from the Parent, Subsidiary or Affiliated
Company certifying that the Indian visitor is a bonafide employee of their organization and
the payment of his/ her travel and stay in Mexico will be borne by the said company. Also,
that the payment for services rendered in the Mexican territory will be made by the
employer company outside Mexico.
A copy of the contract related to exact nature of Business visit viz. transfer of
technology, patents and trademarks, purchase-sale of machinery and equipment,
technical training of employees, or any other production process-signed by the employer
company with the company in Mexico.
A copy of document showing the legal status of the Mexican company.
Education/Training:
• A letter of invitation or acceptance from an Educational Institution belonging/ affiliated
to the National Educational System of Mexico.
• A copy of document showing the affiliation of the Educational Institution.
Full details of the course/ study and research and training projects proposed to be
attended by the Indian student. Voluntary Work Visa:
• A letter from the organization or public or private institution inviting the Indian national
to participate in an unpaid activity in Mexico.
• A copy of document showing legal status of the organizational institution in Mexico.
• The exact activity or purpose of the visit and estimated time of stay.
A letter of responsibility from the organization/ institution concerned for meeting the
expenses of travel and stay of the Indian national in Mexico territory.
4. All Indian nationals who wish to travel to Mexico by availing the visa exemption facility
should carefully go through the above lists of requirements and carry adequate paper
work/ information with them. As far as possible, the supporting documents should be in
Spanish language (or with a translation in Spanish) as most of the officials at the Mexican
airport immigration do not speak/ or understand English.
