 Subscriber Records: 3-5 years

 Call Detail Records/Bill copies (without cell site details): 3-5 years

 Call Detail Records (with cell site details): 1 year

 Text Messages (SMS) Detail: 1 year

 Text Message (SMS) Location details: NOT AVAILABLE

 Text Message (SMS) Content: typically 3-5 days (0-10 days depending on device)

 Tower Dumps: 1 year

 RTT (Real Time Tool – distance to tower): 8 days

 IP Session details: 1 year

 IP Destination details: 180 days

AT&T Mobility

 Subscriber Records: 7 years

 Call Detail Records (without cell site details): 7 years

 Cell Site Records (with cell site details): 7 years

 Text Message (SMS) Detail: 7 years

 Text Message (SMS) Content: (NOT maintained by AT&T by default)

 If a customer has set up an Android OS phone to store messages to the “Cloud”,

the content is available. This service is called AT&T Messaging. Content retention is

controlled by the customer, meaning AT&T will only retain what the customer has

not deleted.

 If a customer is using an iPhone, the legal demand will need to be sent to Apple.

AT&T does not have any control over those records. Apple might retain message

content in iCloud in an encrypted format.

 Text Message (SMS) Location Information: 7 years

 Tower Dumps: 7 years

 NELOS (Network Event Location System) Data: 90 days

 Real Time Location Data: provided to requestor via e-mail every 15 minutes

Sprint

 Subscriber Records: Indefinitely

 Bill Records (CDR – no location details): 7-10 years

 Pre-paid Account Records: 18 months

 Call Detail Records (with cell cite details): 18 months

 Call Detail Records - CDR’s (Voice only) are kept for 18 Months; the records will

then be archived and can be retrieved for a fee. Sprint is currently charging $312

per day of records requested. Be sure to put the verbiage “Requesting Tape Back-

Up” records in the legal demand; so, Sprint will know that archived messages are

being requested.

 Text Messages (SMS) Detail Records: 18-24 months

 Text Messages (SMS) Content: (NOT maintained by Sprint by default)

 Text Message (SMS) Location Details: (NOT maintained by Sprint by default)

 Tower Dumps: 18 months

 PCMD - Per Call Measurement Data: 14 –90 days (some details in these records are

purged after 14 days, but the remainder is kept for up to 90 days.)

 Real Time Location Data: Estimated GPS data via L-Site Every 15 minutes via e-mail

T-Mobile

 Subscriber Records: 24 months

 Call Detail Records (without cell site details): 24 months

 Call Detail Records (with cell site details): 24 months

 Text Message (SMS) Detail Records: 24 months

 Text Messages (SMS) Content: some requestors report receiving content

Google

 Handset Location Data including cellular, GPS and Wi-Fi geolocation: Indefinite –

or until deleted by the user

 Sensorvault data (Geofence) – from 2009 to current

 User Account Details: Indefinite – or until deleted by the user

 App History: Indefinite – or until deleted by the user

 NOTE: Google is now charging for legal compliance production returns.

Exceptions are Preservation requests, Emergency Disclosure Orders,

Missing/Endangered Children, and Child sexual Exploitation

Apple

 Apple will not provide historical user location data

 User Account iCloud data remains indefinitely – or until deleted by user

 iCloud data often includes significant data – will need to decrypt data return with

forensic software tool
